The Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra (SBSO) is excited to announce their 2012-2013 Season, “Musical Journeys” under the direction of Music Director Brett Mitchell.
This marks Mitchell’s third season with the 77-year strong Orchestra. “Musical Journeys” sets out to explore music that relates to significant physical locations across the globe as well as prime milestones in the journey that is human life.
“Musical Journeys,” much like its preceding season, will continue to explore some exciting new collaborations in the region, as well as bring in some guest artists to accompany the Orchestra.
The ever-popular holiday pops concert– “A Classical Christmas Returns” on December 4th– is a fitting example of such collaborations. States Maestro Mitchell, “[I’m] Very excited to welcome a CMU faculty member to solo with us on our annual holiday concert: bass-baritone Eric Hoy Tucker will sing a beautiful work by Vaughan Williams called Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Also on that program is a group I’ve looked forward to working with for a long time: The Center Stage Chorale at the Midland Center for the Arts and its artistic director and conductor, James F. Hohmeyer. Working with these great artists from right here in our own backyard is a testament to what great talent we have here in mid-Michigan, and I couldn’t be more delighted than to share the stage with them this December.”
