Leadership Saginaw County
Leadership Saginaw County is a 10-month community awareness program designed to familiarize existing and emerging leaders with the opportunities and challenges present in Saginaw County. The program provides participants with the opportunity to meet community leaders to gain insight and deepen their understanding of our community while fostering a network of contacts among participants and presenters.
The first 21-member class graduated in 1987. Many of the over 950 graduates of Leadership Saginaw can be found in key positions on boards and committees of community-based organizations, in elected positions in local government and practicing their acquired leadership skills within their own occupations.
The Leadership Saginaw program has been a sound investment that continues to pay excellent dividends. Consider applying for Leadership Saginaw County or encouraging a potential community leader within your organization to participate in the program.

Sessions include on-site visits, tours and "hands-on" experiences. Program topics are reviewed annually and adjusted to incorporate emerging leadership and community issues.
Who Should Apply
Leadership Saginaw County has found that a diverse group of individuals makes for an ideal class of participants. We encourage persons from all walks of life to apply for a position in the program. This includes persons from differing occupations, industries, and organizations.
Candidate selection is based on demonstrated leadership ability and potential, including past and current community involvement. Individual accomplishments, expressed desire to assume expanded responsibilities of leadership and personal references are also considered.
Every attempt is made to select a group of participants representing a broad cross section of community interests and professions. Candidate selections will be announced in late June.
Applications for Leadership Saginaw County are accepted year round and due April 30th for consideration in the class beginning in August .

Class Project Proposals
Each year, members of the Leadership Saginaw program will organize and complete a project. Past projects range from building a greenhouse and educational garden, to planning and funding identifying signage placed throughout the county to creating a Giving Circle to benefit area nonprofit organizations.
In October, the Chamber will request proposals from local nonprofits to complete a project of its choosing. Projects are reviewed and selected by the class and all communications are done by the class.

Class of 2023
On June 15th, the 35th cohort of the Leadership Saginaw County program celebrated their completion of the course with drinks and dinner at Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth. Congratulations to each and every one of these outstanding individuals.
Marsh Princing Award
In 2001, the Marsh-Princing Award was created to honor the founders of the Leadership Saginaw County program, former City of Saginaw Mayor Henry Marsh and business owner Mary Princing. This award is presented to a graduate of the Leadership Saginaw program who has been an Alumnus for 3 or more years, displays consistent, active leadership and is a visible, positive community influence.

Dr. Jack W. Nash, DDS
Class of 1988 |
Dr. Jack Weston Nash, DDS was born and raised in Saginaw and chose to remain in his hometown to serve his family, friends, and neighbors through his dental practice, volunteerism, and musical talents.
Dr. Nash began his collegiate career at Delta College, transferred to Central Michigan University, and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Michigan Dental School. He is a Master of the American Academy of General Dentistry, and is a member of the American Dental Association, Saginaw Valley District Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and American Academy of General Dentistry. |
His passion for the people of Saginaw extends beyond his dental practice, now in its 45th year. Dr. Nash served many years on the Positive Results in a Downtown Environment (PRIDE) Board of Directors, including three years as President and the YMCA of Saginaw Board of Directors. He has volunteered for the Saginaw NAACP, the Saginaw Community Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of the Great Lakes Bay Region, Boy Scouts of America, the Saginaw Friendship Games, Friday Night Live, and local little league teams as a sponsor and coach. Dr. Nash is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and serves on the City of Saginaw’s Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board.
Accolades include receiving the Freedom Fund Award for Leadership from the NAACP, the Legacy Civic Fund Award, the Willie Thompson Community Service Award, and the Alpha Phi Alpha Community Service Award from the oldest black fraternity in the United States.
With all the time that he commits to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Saginaw County and the Great Lakes Bay Region, he is also an accomplished musician. As long-time bass player for the Robert Lee Revue, this smooth jazz group released three CD’s titled “For the Love of Smooth Jazz”, “City of Smooth Jazz” and “The Hall of Smooth Jazz” which features “Any Moment”, a #1 hit on the Billboard Smooth Jazz chart.
Dr. Nash and his wife, Janet, have been married for more than 43 years and have two children, Phillip and Gretchen.
