Downtown Saginaw Farmers' Market Opens for the Season

Blue and white striped tents at 507 S. Washington Avenue signal the beginning of Downtown Saginaw Farmers’ Market 2012 season. When the Market bell rings at 10:00 am on Friday, May 25 area residents and visitors will find fresh local spring produce, plants, food, entertainment, and fun under the tents.

Shoppers need not look any further than Market for incredible greenhouse plants, perennials/annuals in baskets, flats, and planters of all sizes and colors. Friday fun includes entertainment by Leo Feith, WSGW live broadcast of “The Farm Show”; GROW Saginaw planting demonstration, and a used book sale. Market is open Friday, May 25 10:00 am – 3:00 pm and Saturday, May 26 9:00 am – 1:00 pm rain or shine.

“The spring weather has been unusual, but in spite of that our vendors are ready to bring great fresh products to our Market customers” says Shelley McGeathy Executive Director of the Market. Tables will be full of lettuces, spinach, carrots, salad turnips, rhubarb, asparagus all from area fields and hoop houses. Honey, maple syrup, jams, jellies, and baked sweet treats produced locally will satisfy your sweet tooth. Save room for lunch as gumbo, baked chicken sandwiches, tacos, pulled pork, and salads are available.

When Market Master Jeff Bookmyer rings the bell and says, “Let’s do some business!” fresh excitement will be back for the season under the tents. The Downtown Saginaw Farmers’ Market will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday weekly from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm but is closed on Memorial Day Monday. Saturday Market begins on July 7 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm through October 31. The Market accepts Bridge/SNAP cards, debit/credit cards, and Double Up Food Bucks for customer convenience.
