Q: What year did you begin working at your company?
A: 2022
Q: When year did you join the YPN Steering Committee?
A: 2025
Q: What motivated you to join the YPN Steering Committee?
A: As a transplant to Saginaw, I moved here knowing almost nobody. The YPN allowed me to meet a wide variety of people and the events put on by the YPN and the chamber allowed me to get to know my new community. I was motivated to join the YPNSC so that I could provide the same experience to other new members of the community.
Q: What’s your favorite way to build meaningful connections at YPN events—before, during, or after the event?
A: I am a firm believer that there is no wrong time to build meaningful connections however, I think if you really want to get to know someone, you should grab some food or a drink with them after the event. People tend to be more relaxed and more willing to share aspects of their personal life you may never have learned while at a professional event.
Q: How do you hope someone feels after attending their first YPN event?
A: I hope they feel like the time went by way too quickly and that they wish the next YPN event was tomorrow.
Q: What’s one professional skill you’ve strengthened through your involvement with YPN?
A: Networking! I know it is right in the title, but YPN events are a great way to get used to networking with the intent for genuine relationships in a low stakes environment. I would not feel as comfortable as I do at more formal events had I not gotten practice at YPN events.
Q: What’s one moment during your time with YPN that made you feel especially connected to the group or the community?
A: The Memories and Milestones event last year. Hearing the speakers and seeing such a large turnout in support of the YPN really made me feel the impact the YPN has had and will continue to have on our community.
Q: What’s one habit or mindset that helps you balance career growth with community involvement?
A: I am of the mindset that you cannot have real career growth without community involvement. I feel that being an active participant, with a good reputation, in the community is directly related to career development. This mentality prevents me from feeling like I need to “balance” or make a choice between career and community.
Q: What’s something outside of work that brings you energy or inspiration and helps you show up as a better leader?
A: I really enjoy backpacking, last September I went to the Porcupine Mountains in the UP with some of my oldest friends. I think that spending time outside, away from emails, Instagram, and the TV is a great way to recharge. When you are out there, everything is just a bit more difficult, and you’re already worn out from carrying everything miles down the trail. These trips are a good reminder that one should be intentional and efficient in life and that the only way out is through.
Q: What’s a hidden gem in Saginaw County you enjoy recommending to other young professionals?
A: The Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is one of the best ways to get into some nature without having to drive too far. There are some cool trails to walk and great opportunities to see wildlife.
Q: If your life had a theme song right now, what would it be and why?
A: Buddy Holly by Weezer. I think it speaks to the importance of approaching life with a good sense of humor and how one should accept who they are and be confident in themselves.
