Q: When did you begin working at your company?
A: 2002, and I have worked in Downtown Saginaw for almost 30 years.
Q: When did you become a Chamber Ambassador?
A: 2024
Q: What motivated you to become an Ambassador?
A: Years ago, I worked for the Chamber and Saginaw Future shares a floor with the Chamber, so I know how important their volunteers are. I saw it as a more formal way to give back to the Chamber and the business community and grow my network. Also, it's a great way to inform businesses of the services provided by Saginaw Future.
Q: What’s the most memorable connection you’ve made as a Chamber Ambassador?
A: I have made so many memorable connections that it is difficult to come up with just one. I have met entrepreneurs, developers, soon to be NHL hockey players, CEOs of international corporations, musicians, food truck operators and on and on. The Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce has it all.
Q: What Chamber event do you look forward to the most and why?
A: The Leadership Awards are always awesome. It is kind of the like the Saginaw County business and community hall of fame. The award recipients have the most fascinating and inspiring stories. I think one of the best was Mark Flegenheimer’s story of how his father fled Nazi Germany and teamed up with a Cuban immigrant who fled Castro to develop Michigan Sugar Company.
Q: What’s one networking tip you’d share with new Chamber members?
A: Have fun with it and enjoy yourself. I have met so many intriguing people and learned about so many interesting businesses and products made here in Saginaw.
Q: Tell us one fun fact about you that might surprise people.
A: My middle name is Florian, which is a little different… Florian is the patron saint of Upper Austria and Poland; also firefighters, chimneysweeps, and brewers.
Q: What was your first job?
A: I was a paper boy, and I was responsible for an eight-story apartment building. It was great, I didn’t have to deal with the weather once I was there and could be in and out fast.
Q: What was your dream job as a child, and how does it compare to what you’re doing now?
A: I always enjoyed reading, writing, technology and photography. So, in some ways I have my dream job as a Communications & Marketing Director.
Q: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
A: Maybe not too adventurous, but I have run two marathons. More pain than adventure, the first one was in the rain, and it was about 40 degrees.
Q: What inspires or motivates you to keep giving back to the community?
A: I’m motivated by the world-class companies in our community and the people that help make them successful. Hemlock Semiconductor recently made one of the largest investments in the semiconductor supply chain and makes the purest human produced substance on earth - polycrystalline silicon. Morley Companies works with dozens of Fortune 500 and Global 500 companies. The Bavarian Inn Lodge will be the largest Midwest indoor waterpark and will have Michigan’s first swim up bar. The DTE Meridian Wind Park is the largest in the state. Corning is in the middle of constructing a $900 Million solar supply chain facility and the Saginaw Medical Diamond is not too far away. That’s inspiring!
