Meet Thor Rasmussen
Q: When did you begin working at your company?
A: I started with the Saginaw Art Museum & Gardens and The Temple Theatre in 2018. The institutions merged in 2020 to become TempleArts.
Q: When did you become a Chamber Ambassador?
A: I became an Chamber Ambassador in 2019.
Q: What motivated you to become an Ambassador?
A: I was attending many of the Chamber events and thought it would be a great way of strengthening my own network and helping create connections for others.
Q: What’s the most memorable connection you’ve made as a Chamber Ambassador?
A: Being a Chamber Ambassador helps keep me tuned to people that may not be as familiar with chamber events as others. New chamber visitors seem to have a slight look of uncertainty when they step into a Perc Breakfast or Business After Hours. It is always a pleasure to bring those people into the fold and help them acclimate to the Chamber.
Q: What Chamber event do you look forward to the most and why?
A: The monthly Chamber Percs are my favorite. They are a great place to touchbase with friends and make new ones. Mornings are my jam so it’s great to be up and at it early.
Q: What’s one networking tip you’d share with new Chamber members?
A: Don’t be afraid of being bold and walking up to a cocktail table of people you don’t know and introducing yourself. There are all kinds of interesting people doing interesting things in the chamber.
Q: Tell us one fun fact about you that might surprise people.
A: I don’t have a TV in my house.
Q: What was your first job?
A: As a teenager, I helped flip a house. I didn’t have any skills, but I could sweep a floor and fill a dumpster. I remember the smell of old house in my nostrils for days.
Q: What was your dream job as a child, and how does it compare to what you’re doing now?
A: I always wanted to be an artist. I’m not to far off in my professional career now. While I may not be an artist professionally (i.e., making a living), in many ways I can facilitate encounters with art for others and find that very rewarding.
Q: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
A: I ran another marathon.
Q: What inspires or motivates you to keep giving back to the community?
A: I think there is some degree of personal responsibility in helping do small things in the community. This is my home and I want to take care of it.
