Q: What year did you begin working at your company?
A: I began working at the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum in January of 2018.
Q: When year did you join the YPN Steering Committee?
A: I joined the YPN Steering Committee in 2024.
Q: What motivated you to join the YPN Steering Committee?
A: I wanted to join the YPN Steering Committee to make professional connections and to be a voice in creating events and programming that attracts young people to Saginaw.
Q: What YPN event do you look forward to the most and why?
A: I look forward to the bar crawl, YPN Connect: Saginaw Social, the most because there are usually more people in attendance that may not attend all of the other events. The event is always a good time with great people!
Q: What’s your favorite way to build meaningful connections at YPN events—before, during, or after the event?
A: My favorite way to build connections is during the event when you can talk to someone in person. There is no better way to connect than seeing someone and talking to them. Sending a follow up email is important too, to continue the connection.
Q: How do you hope someone feels after attending their first YPN event?
A: I hope anyone that attends a YPN event feels welcome and important. YP’s are what is going to drive Saginaw’s growth in the coming years and we want people to want to stay and be connected.
Q: What’s one professional skill you’ve strengthened through your involvement with YPN?
A: A professional skill I’ve strengthened through YPN is being an active participant in meetings. Before I would passively sit in meetings or not speak up for fear of being wrong, but now I share my opinion or thoughts. It is okay to have different ideas and to share your viewpoint. We all come from different business sectors and it is important to take all of that into account.
Q: What’s one moment during your time with YPN that made you feel especially connected to the group or the community?
A: YPN connects people professionally, but it also creates personal connections too. I will never forget that after I had my son in 2024, the group put together a little care basket and brought it to me. They didn’t have to do that, but the people that are involved with the YPN and the Steering Committee care so much about people and building up the community that we live in.
Q: What’s one habit or mindset that helps you balance career growth with community involvement?
A: A mindset I try to keep for career growth and community involvement is that you need to be involved in the community to grow your career. Whether it is a professional or personal connection, without community and connections, you can’t grow your career. If you don’t help build up your community, then how can your career build? Always keep an open mind!
Q: What’s something outside of work that brings you energy or inspiration and helps you show up as a better leader?
A: Outside of work, my family is what inspires me to be better. Raising kids has taught me patience (and I’m still learning/practicing that) and how to speak to someone on their level. I want people to speak to me like I speak to my kids, with kindness and understanding. That may not always happen, but taking a breath and resetting is okay. That applies to work too. At times work can be frustrating but speak to people with respect and they will appreciate you more.
Q: What’s a hidden gem in Saginaw County you enjoy recommending to other young professionals?
A: I love recommending Valerie’s as a lunch spot. Their sandwiches are so good and the staff are super friendly.
Q: If your life had a theme song right now, what would it be and why?
A: My theme song right now would be 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton because I need my morning coffee and some days just seem so busy at work.
