Meet Michael Wilson II

Michael Wilson II
CPA and Manager
Yeo & Yeo, CPA
Q: When did you begin working at your company?
A: I began working at Yeo & Yeo in January of 2020.

Q: When did you become a member of the Saginaw County Young Professionals Network?
A: I became a member of the Saginaw County Young Professionals Network in the summer of 2022.

Q: What motivated you to join the YPN Steering Committee?
A: Over the last couple of years, I have been involved with Yeo & Yeo’s internal Young Professionals group – serving as president for the last year and a half.  I would say that serving in this role motivated me to join the YPN Steering Committee.  The YPN group does great things in the community, and I wanted to be able to bring my experience to the group to continue to serve the community & young professionals in the area.

Q: What’s the most memorable connection you’ve made as YPN member?
A: I would say that the most memorable connection that I have made as a YPN member isn’t a connection to someone in my network, but rather a connection with a non-profit group.  Back in 2022 I volunteered with the YPN as we assisted the Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan, Impact Design team with a move.  This was a very impactful day as we helped make a new home feel a little bit more like home for a formerly homeless family.

Q: What YPN event do you look forward to the most and why?
A: The annual YPN Golf Outing.  I enjoy golfing so I enjoy being able to get out and see people that I may not see all the time.

Q: What’s one networking tip you’d share with new YPN members?
A: Get out of your comfort zone.  Starting off, networking can be intimidating.  Think about it, you go to an event to meet people that you do not know and are trying to sell yourself to them.  The only way to make this less intimidating is by showing up as it is inevitable that you will make connections along the way.

Q: Tell us one fun fact about you that might surprise people.
A: I knew that I wanted to be an accountant at age 15.  Weird, I know.  Not sure how many teenagers think, “I want to help business with their taxes when I grow up.”

Q: What was your first job?
A: My first job was as at Northwoods Wholesale Outlet.  I worked in the hardware and camping section & stocked shelves and assisted customers with finding items.

Q: Tell us how the YPN has made you realize, or appreciate more, what Saginaw County has to offer in regards to living, working or playing here?
A: That there are a lot of great opportunities here & in the Great Lakes Bay region.

Q: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
A: The most adventurous thing that I have ever done would be hiking the snowcaps at Mount Evans in Colorado.  Going from sunny and 60 degrees at the start of the trip up the mountain to all of a sudden being in a snow storm while on top of a mountain was a pretty cool experience.

Q: What inspires or motivates you to be part of the YPN?
A: I would say three things; assisting young professionals with professional development, cultivating relationship with other young professionals in the area and giving back to the community through volunteerism.
