Strong Roots...
Organized in 1863, the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce has diligently served the Saginaw Valley business community for over 159 years. Going back to the early days of the lumbering era, the Chamber, then known as the Board of Trade, has developed our economy, helped bring jobs to the area and taken the initiative to improve our quality of life. The Chamber's goal is to enhance our community assets and work to continue Saginaw County's long tradition of being a great place to live, work, learn and play!
...Strong Future
We are entrepreneurs and philanthropists,
executives and artists,
movers and shakers and doers and neighbors
with a single, shared purpose -
to elevate our community through business.
The Chamber Leadership
Twenty-five to thirty board members, a cross section of leaders from the Saginaw County business and professional community, represent the hundreds of members of the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce. Our Board members come from a variety of professional backgrounds, which allows for multiple perspectives on Saginaw County's challenges and assets. The diversity also provides a variety of opportunities for combining resources and directing them for continuous community advancement.
The Chamber in Our Community
The Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce has a long, rich history of bringing diverse groups together to foster an exceptional Saginaw. We support and advocate equality for everyone, everywhere in Saginaw County which should be a place where all are welcomed and treated with dignity and respect. If we don't all succeed, we leave people behind, and that is unacceptable.
Influence is a part of the Chamber's misson. It is both a pursuit and an asset of the Chamber, and the tools of influence: strategic partnerships, a collective business voice, access to leaders, and advocacy, uniquely situate the Chamber to facilitate growth and positive change for our community. For that reason, it is vital that the membership and leadership of the Chamber reflect the community we serve.
As an organization, our state policies and principles direct continued and tireless efforts to promote business members of all races, religions, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientation and age. We encourage all businesses to engage and participate.
A Catalyst for Growth
In an ongoing effort to develop quality community leaders, the Chamber operates the Leadership Saginaw County Program. This 10-month community awareness and leader connection program was founded in 1986 and has graduates who serve in key positions on boards and committees of community-based organizations, local and state government, and volunteer-driven initiatives.
The Chamber also established the Saginaw County Young Professionals Network with the mission to support the attraction and retention of young talent to Saginaw County and the Great Lakes Bay Region while developing the next generation of leaders.
The Front Door of the Community
We handle thousands of inquiries every year from people moving to the area, students returning home, and people who want to learn more about the Saginaw Valley. The Chamber provides data and information on schools, employers, doctors, churches, and all of the communities within the Valley.
A Supporter of Small Business
Small businesses turn to us in challenging times, when they need advice and counsel. Our members are always willing to help fellow members. The Chamber answers questions and provides direction and assistance. We host networking events to connect members with each other, offer small business seminars, provide sales assistance through a sales leads roundtable program, provide a forum for business to business advertising and benefits, participate in small-business resource development and education, and more.
A Leader in Regional Cooperation
We helped create the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance, whose goal is to develop the entire Mid-Michigan economy. For more than a decade, we have worked cooperatively with other Chambers in the region to connect regional businesses through the Partners in Progress Regional Chamber Summit. Through advocacy efforts and partnerships with other business organizations, the Saginaw County Chamber is constantly working to improve the business climate locally, in the Great Lakes Bay Region, and in the State of Michigan.
A Community Promoter
Through media relations, our website and various publications, the Chamber markets Saginaw County to the region, state, country, and world. Printed publications include the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce membership directory and resource guide, Simply Saginaw and the quarterly business magazine, Business Advocate. Digital publications include the Chamber’s membership newsletter, At A Glance, the Saginaw Chamber Advocacy publication, Policy Pulse, and the Chamber’s Young Professional’s Network newsletter, Navigator. In addition, we promote and support local business, attractions, initiatives, and information through social media sites on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Twitter.
