The Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce and its hundreds of members across the Saginaw Valley region today threw its support behind the Good Jobs for Michigan coalition. The coalition supports legislation designed to grow more good-paying jobs statewide and not be left on the sidelines behind other states, like Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, South Carolina and more.
"This is a jobs issue. We can't afford to let other states lure away businesses that should be growing in or coming to Saginaw, Frankemuth, or other communities across our region and Michigan," said Bob Van Deventer, president/CEO of the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce. "This legislation will help us compete and win more good jobs for our workers and families. It will help grow our economy, bolstering our neighborhoods, communities, schools and infrastructure to ensure a strong quality of life for all. We urge our lawmakers to pass this critical jobs package."
The Good Jobs for Michigan legislation is comprised of Senate Bills 242, 243 and 244. The bills would allow simple, transparent and predictable incentives to fill critical gaps in Michigan's business attraction toolkit, enabling the state to compete and secure projects of 250 and 500+ jobs. Numerous safeguards are built into the legislation to ensure that no incentives are paid until minimum jobs and wage thresholds are met and verified, and that projects demonstrate a positive fiscal impact to the state.
The Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, based in Saginaw, Michigan, is committed to building healthy organizations and communities by following its core strategies of communicate, connect and influence to support local business success.
